Our Favorite Hotels & Hostels in Costa Rica
During our travels through Costa Rica, we always search for the most beautiful and unique hotels. Whether it's a beautiful lodge in the middle of the jungle or a cool hostel where you can have a fun evening, it has to be something special that makes your trip extra enjoyable. In this article, we have listed all our favorite places for you. One hotel is for the traveler with a slightly broader budget, and the other hotel is perfect for the budget traveler. All these hostels and hotels are very popular, so it's wise to book in advance.
Please note: We mention 'starting prices.' Hotel prices greatly depend on your travel period and how far in advance you book. The starting price can therefore vary significantly when you book late and/or travel during the high season.

Nature's Edge Cabinas
The location of this hostel is brilliant! It is situated higher up on the mountain and surrounded by the jungle. Toucans and parrots are flying all around, and you wake up to the sounds of the jungle. You'll stay in a bungalow with fantastic views. Just be aware that a 4x4 vehicle is necessary because this hotel is located higher up on the mountain.

Cascada Verde
Cascada Verde is also a unique spot in Uvita. Unlike Nature's Edge, it's not very luxurious, but you'll stay right in the middle of the jungle. You can often spot toucans and sloths here, so you'll be sleeping in a truly remarkable place. They offer both dormitories and double rooms, and the staff is very helpful.

Lua Villas
At Lua Villas, you can expect a delightful time. You'll stay in a beautiful bungalow with a kitchen, outdoor shower, and comfortable bed. The bungalows are surrounded by a lovely garden, and there's a yoga deck. It's located slightly outside the village of Santa Teresa, but if you have a rental car, you can reach it within minutes.

Salty Enthusiasts
For a comfortable accommodation at an affordable price, Salty Enthusiasts is the place to be. It has a laid-back and friendly atmosphere, largely created by the friendly staff. Natural materials are used extensively, and there are cozy seating areas throughout. Plus, the location couldn't be better!

Selina La Fortuna
If you're looking for a cozy accommodation where you can easily meet other travelers, Selina is the best choice in La Fortuna. It has a super relaxed vibe, a nice pool, and it's located right in the town, so there are many restaurants nearby. You can join a yoga class every morning, and in the evening, there's often live music or a DJ. This is the perfect place if you enjoy a lively atmosphere. You can choose to stay in an idyllic tipi tent (see photo), a budget double room, a luxury room, or a dormitory. There's something for everyone!

La Tigra Rainforest Lodge
A trip to Costa Rica isn't complete without staying in a lodge in the middle of the jungle. At La Tigra Rainforest Lodge, you'll sleep in a unique treehouse with fantastic views. At night, you can admire the starry sky, and in the morning, you'll wake up to the sounds of the jungle. What an experience! The lodge offers exciting excursions to explore the jungle. Please note: La Tigra Rainforest Lodge is not located in the town but in the vicinity of La Fortuna, so it's recommended to book this lodge only if you have a rental car.

Tico Tico Villas
At Tico Tico Villas, you'll stay in a spacious apartment with all the amenities. There's a beautiful garden, a large pool, and the owner, Vernita, is incredibly friendly. She's happy to provide tips for your stay in Manuel Antonio! This hotel is for adults only.

If you're looking for a cozy hostel where you can easily meet other travelers, Plinio is the place for you! This hostel is surrounded by jungle, has a nice pool, and there are hammocks and other comfortable seating areas everywhere. Breakfast is included at this friendly price.

Selina Puerto Viejo
Selina in Puerto Viejo is also a great option. They have something for everyone: you can sleep in a tipi tent, a double room, a beautiful suite, or choose a bed in a dormitory. In addition, there's a large pool, it's located near the beach, there's often live music, and you can rent bicycles.

Hotel Casa Merlin
If you're looking for a more peaceful stay, Hotel Casa Merlin is the place for you. It's located a bit further from the town, but that means you'll be completely immersed in nature. There's a lovely pool, a shared outdoor kitchen, and you'll stay in a spacious and comfortable room with air conditioning.

Cabinas Vista Al Golfo
Cabinas Vista Al Golfo is a good choice if you're looking for budget accommodation. It's not luxurious, but it offers great value for the price you pay. The staff is super friendly and helpful in booking activities. There's a large terrace where you can enjoy an amazing view of the mountains.

In this lovely B&B, you'll stay amidst nature, and there's a good chance you'll spot many animals from here. It's located about a mile from the town and is run by a friendly family who go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. You'll be treated to a delicious breakfast to start your day right!

Alameda Cariari Boutique Hotel
This hotel is only 5 km away from the airport, making it perfect for staying before or after your flight if you want to be close to the airport. There are several good restaurants within walking distance, and the pool (with a slide!) is delightful and well-maintained. Extra tip: if you're looking for something smaller, be sure to check out the guesthouse Casa de las Tias.

Selina San José
What a cool hostel in San José! The decor is super creative, there's a cozy atmosphere, and you'll have plenty of space to meet other travelers. They have everything from yoga classes to a pool table, hammocks, and comfortable seating areas. Plus, you don't have to leave the premises for good food, and there's often live music. Just note that due to the evening live music, you may hear music in your room until midnight.
